Jessica Dixon Majka
Jessica Dixon Majka is a classically trained dancer and movement expert, certified to teach yoga, pilates mat and meditation. Her movement journey began in a Newnan, Georgia ballet class when she was 3 years old. As a child, the studio quickly became a sacred place that fed her love of classical music, dance, breath, inspiration and the beauty of feeling connected to something larger than herself.
In 2000, Jessica moved to New York when she was selected out of 150 people worldwide to attend the prestigious Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in Manhattan. She studied alongside many modern dance pioneers and classical ballet masters, such as Jacqulyn Buglisi of Buglisi Dance, Kazuko Hirabayashi, and Celia Marino. As part of the Alvin Ailey curriculum, Jessica was introduced to yoga and later came to love the embodiment that the yoga practice offered as an extension to her dance.
While in New York she danced professionally performing works of many prominent choreographers, working in film and television in front of the camera, as well as behind the scenes, designing and styling costumes for dance and television all while while deepening her studies of yoga.
In 2003, Jessica became a 500 hour ISHTA certified yoga teacher through Alan Finger, one of the original founders of Yoga Works and Be Yoga, with additional guidance and gratitude to her esteemed instructors; Jean Koerner, Jillian Pransky and Peter Ferko.
As a senior teacher within ISHTA Yoga, Jessica went on to further her yoga career. She taught in yoga teacher training programs in Washington D.C. and NYC and helped develop corporate programs for companies such HBO, Time Warner and CNN. She held a staff position at The Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. Jessica worked inside the highly-regarded Manhattan Physio Group and has participated as a guest speaker at NYU Langone Medical Neo-natal.
To deepen her knowledge of the ancient traditions, in 2014 Jessica took time off to travel within India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.
Jessica welcomed her beautiful and vibrant daughter, Tula 2018. She and her husband now reside in her sweet home town of Newnan, GA.
