jessica DIXON MAJKA

Jessica loves the study of human movement, energetics, and finds deep joy in helping others connect to their bodies, their minds, and their spirit through healthy and beautiful movement. Her classes are educational, dynamic, highly intuitive, creative, articulate and brings a sense of joy, ease and inspiration.

Jessica’s love for movement began in a Newnan, Georgia Ballet class when she was 3 years old and later extended into NYC. As a child, the studio quickly became a sacred place for her that fed her love of classical music, dance, breath, moving from a place of inspiration (dance) and the beauty of feeling something larger than herself moving throughout.

MY STORY

2000-2002

Jessica attended the prestigious Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre where she studied with modern dance pioneers and classical ballet masters. She initially disliked yoga but later grew to love how it enhanced her dance.

2003-2007

In 2003, Jessica became an ISHTA certified yoga teacher through Alan Finger, originally from South Africa, with guidance from Jean Koerner, Jilian Pransky, Mona Anand, and Peter Ferko. She continued to dance professionally in NYC, performing works of prominent choreographers, working in film and television, and designing/styling costumes. She also deepened her studies of yoga and eventually became a senior teacher within ISHTA Yoga.

2008-2013

Jessica taught in yoga teacher training programs in Washington D.C. and NYC. She taught yoga and meditation programs for HBO, Time Warner inc, CNN, Yoga Works, and worked at Manhatten Physio Group. She was a guest speaker at NYU Langone Medical Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit and a staff teacher at The Omega Institute for Holistic Studies. She is a compassionate, dynamic, and creative teacher with a joyful light-hearted approach.

2014-2017

In 2014, Jessica took time off to travel in India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, to deepen her experiences of ancient traditions. She continues to teach and to dance and her latest piece of choreography in collaboration with composer and Golden Globe nominee Rolf Kent, Christina Courtin, and Michelle Sarrat premiered at ABC Home of Deepak in NYC in 2017.

2018-2020

Jessica welcomed her beautiful and vibrant daughter Tula in 2018, and has taken sabbatical to focus on time with her daughter and family.

In 2020, Jessica began studying alongside Mary Ann Biggs and Susan Baddock of The Newnan Pilates Loft where Jessica was able to reconnect with her joy of movement as well as recover from injuries from an accident.

2021-PRESENT

Pilates paired with other practices from her path, she was inspired and encouraged to create Atelier JDM in 2021 and gifted space by Mary Ann Biggs within the Newnan Pilates Loft to explore, learn, and devolop Atelier technique.  She is excited to be opening the doors of Atelier 20 Perry in her hometown and hopes that it is a place for people to connect, have fun, feel great, and learn!
